Before you start
There are two kinds of adaptations: minor and major.
Minor adaptations
Minor adaptations (up to the cost of £300) are small items such as:
- grab rails
- lever taps
- bathroom rails
Places for People will cover the cost of this work and our own contractors will carry out the work. Multiple minor adaptations may made on a single property up to the value of £1,000.
Major adaptations
Major adaptations include:
- level access showers
- stair lifts
- adapted kitchens
These get referred to your Local Authority for an Occupational Therapy assessment.
An approved adaptation may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant. These grants are means tested and you may need to pay for some of the work yourself.
Eligibility criteria
You must agree to accept responsibility for maintaining and repairing any improvement made during your tenancy.
The alteration must not cause damage to the property.
The proposals cannot conflict with any planning regulations.
We may request a property is reinstated if an improvement is carried out without permission.
